About United Methodist Archives
The General Commission on Archives and History (GCAH) of The United Methodist Church, established in 1968, serves as the primary repository for Methodist denomination history and heritage. Located at the United Methodist Archives & History Center on the campus of Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, GCAH houses over six miles of linear shelving containing the documentary record of the United Methodist connection, along with digital vaults, artifacts, and growing digital exhibits. The organization actively promotes Methodist heritage through research assistance, online courses, podcasts, speaking engagements, webinars, and educational publications, serving scholars, church members, seminaries, and the general public. GCAH also supports local churches and Annual Conferences through workshops, research services, and the Local Church Historians' School, helping congregations preserve and share their own historical narratives. Whether you are researching Methodist teachings, examining the church's social impact, or exploring the lives of key Methodist figures, GCAH provides comprehensive resources for historical exploration and scholarly inquiry into what it means to be United Methodist.
