About Latvian Ev Lutheran Church
Filadelfijas latviešu evanģēliski luteriskās Sv. Jāņa draudze, Philadelphia's Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of St. John, is the oldest Latvian Lutheran congregation in the United States and a member of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Located in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, this welcoming community of approximately 100 families unites Latvian Lutherans and those of Latvian heritage or with interest in a culturally diverse Lutheran experience. The congregation preaches God's Word in both English and Latvian, holding services on Sundays at 11:00 AM during fall through spring and at 10:00 AM in summer. Beyond worship, St. John's serves as a vibrant hub for Latvian cultural and religious activity, hosting a Latvian School through eighth grade, folk dancing, music and art exhibits, and craft fairs throughout the year. The church's intimate chapel accommodates about 100 people in a warm setting with an attached social hall available for gatherings and events.
