About Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception
Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is the mother church of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia. The present cathedral was erected between 1963 and 1966 and was designed by Julian K. Jastremsky in the Byzantine Revival style, modeled on Hagia Sophia. Its central dome is 100 feet in diameter and covered with 22-karat gold Venetian glass tiles. Pope John Paul II visited the cathedral on October 4, 1979. Divine Liturgy is offered during the week, with Saturday and Sunday liturgies in English and a Sunday liturgy in Ukrainian. Rev. Msgr. Peter Waslo serves as Rector.
