About First English Lutheran Church
First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, located in downtown Pittsburgh since 1837, is the first English-speaking Lutheran congregation west of the Allegheny Mountains. The church welcomes all people who share a confession of faith in the Lordship of Jesus Christ and invites visitors to participate in its Christian witness faithful to Holy Scripture and the historic Lutheran Confessions. With Sunday worship services at 8:30 and 11:00 AM featuring Holy Communion, as well as weekday noonday worship on Wednesday afternoons, the congregation serves both downtown Pittsburgh and the broader metropolitan area. Both Sunday liturgies are livestreamed for those who prefer to worship from home. The church extends membership to baptized and confirmed individuals through baptism, affirmation of baptism, or letter of transfer, and also welcomes associate members who wish to participate while maintaining membership elsewhere.
