About Sisters of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation of more than 500 sisters with deep roots in 17th-century France and a presence in Pittsburgh and eleven other states. Founded on the charism of unioning love—bringing neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God—the sisters have ministered since their 1847 arrival in Philadelphia through hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community aid services. Their mission centers on addressing urgent social challenges and serving the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable through spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The congregation welcomes associates in mission, lay partners, and those seeking prayer intentions to join their ongoing commitment to unite all people with God and one another.
