About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic religious congregation with deep roots tracing back to seventeenth-century France, where they were founded on the principle of uniting neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God. Arriving in Philadelphia in 1847, the congregation has grown to approximately 500 members who live and work across twelve states, dedicating themselves to spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Based at their motherhouse in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, the sisters have ministered in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community aid services, responding generously to the urgent needs of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Today they continue their founding charism of incarnating unioning love while addressing contemporary challenges facing the church and world. The congregation also welcomes associates and lay partners who commit to living their common mission in their daily lives.
