About Calvary United Church of Christ
Calvary United Church of Christ is an Open & Affirming congregation in Reading, Pennsylvania, affiliated with the United Church of Christ. The church welcomes all people regardless of age, race, education, income, language, ethnicity, disabilities, marital status, family structure, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Calvary serves the Reading and Berks County community through multiple outreach ministries, including a food pantry, assistance with overdue bills, and partnerships with organizations such as Family Promise, Safe Berks, and Mary's Home. The congregation gathers for worship twice on Sundays—an 8 a.m. service featuring guitar-led singing and weekly Holy Communion lasting about 45 minutes, and a 10:30 a.m. service (9:30 a.m. in summer) with musical offerings from choirs and soloists. Multi-generational Sunday School and an Adult Forum meet monthly. Calvary describes itself as a progressive Christian community committed to making peace, justice, equality, and inclusion a reality through its attitudes, words, and actions.
