Sacred Heart Convent is home to the Bernardine Franciscan Sisters, a Catholic religious community rooted in the spirit of Saint Francis of Assisi and founded by Mother Veronica Grzedowska in 1894. Located in Reading, Pennsylvania, the convent serves as the motherhouse for a vibrant congregation of vowed women engaged in diverse ministries including education at all levels, healthcare, foreign missions, pastoral work, and outreach to the economically disadvantaged across ten U.S. states and internationally in Brazil, Liberia, Mozambique, and the Dominican Republic. The sisters are dedicated to living the Gospel through contemplative prayer, simple living, and compassionate service, guided by their mission to recognize the dignity and giftedness of each person.
