About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation of more than 500 sisters with deep roots tracing back to seventeenth-century France. Founded on the principle of unioning love and incarnating the charism of neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God, the community arrived in Philadelphia in 1847 and established their motherhouse in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood. The sisters have ministered broadly across hospitals, schools, battlefields, orphanages, and community services, responding to urgent challenges facing the poor, the marginalized, and the vulnerable. Today, the congregation continues its mission through direct service, education, and spiritual accompaniment, with associates and lay partners joining in the work of bringing about union of all with God and one another.
