About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with deep roots in both European and American history, tracing its origins to seventeenth-century France and establishing its presence in Philadelphia since 1847. This community of approximately 500 sisters is devoted to their founding charism of unioning love—bringing God, neighbor, and all creation together through spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The congregation has ministered across hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community aid services, responding generously to the emerging needs of their times. Based at their Motherhouse in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, the sisters and their associates work throughout twelve states, continuing their mission of addressing urgent challenges facing the church, society, and the world, especially on behalf of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable.
