About Zen Center of Pittsburgh
Zen Center of Pittsburgh, officially known as Deep Spring Temple, is a Soto Zen Buddhist temple founded in 1999 and led by Abbot Kotoku Crivello. Located on fourteen secluded acres in Sewickley, just north of Pittsburgh, the center serves both experienced practitioners and newcomers seeking to explore Zen Buddhism. The temple offers daily meditation practice, regular Sunday services, weekly orientation classes on the third Tuesday of each month, and periodic Zen meditation intensives. As an official Soto Zen temple in the Japanese Soto School lineage, Deep Spring Temple emphasizes zazen (seated meditation) as the primary gateway to awakening and provides opportunities for lay practice as well as formal priest training for those interested in ordination.
