About St Paul's United Methodist
St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Newport has served its community since 1800, when the congregation first gathered at the State House. The church building, constructed beginning in 1806, holds the distinction of being believed to be the first Methodist Church in the world with a steeple and a bell, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Today, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jaegil Lee since 2015, St. Paul's welcomes all people regardless of background, lifestyle, or ability in a spirited and compassionate community of faith. The church offers contemplative, Spirit-filled, inclusive Sunday worship services and is committed to justice, peace, and healing in the Newport community. St. Paul's has become known as a recovery-oriented church, embodying the radical love of Christ while honoring its rich Wesleyan traditions.
