About Calvary Episcopal Church
The Historic Calvary Episcopal Church, founded in 1847 in Charleston, South Carolina, stands on holy ground as a spiritual anchor in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina. Under the leadership of The Rev. Ricardo Bailey, the seventh rector, Calvary celebrates the Blessed Eucharist every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. with a full choir and an enthusiastic, joyful community steeped in the Black tradition of hymns, spirituality, and prayer. The parish is deeply rooted in its historical significance, acknowledging that it stands on the burial ground of African slaves and carries forward the legacy and witness of enslaved ancestors. Beyond Sunday worship, various committees and organizations gather throughout the week for prayer, community work, and celebration. Calvary welcomes all visitors to share their gifts, tell their stories, and join in witnessing to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Charleston and beyond.
