About First Scots Presbyterian
First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, located in Charleston's historic downtown at 53 Meeting Street, has served the community since its founding in 1731 by twelve Scottish families. The congregation worships in a striking 1814 sanctuary, a stuccoed brick structure with twin towers designed by Scottish master builders and recognized as Charleston's fifth oldest house of worship. The church emphasizes traditional Reformed worship enhanced by a robust music program featuring pipe organ, piano, harpsichord, and multiple choirs, alongside strong commitments to Christian education, mission outreach, and congregational care. Visitors will find a diverse, welcoming congregation rooted in Presbyterian theology and Scottish heritage, with worship centered on Scripture and a deep engagement with both local and global communities. The church offers numerous opportunities for spiritual growth through Sunday worship, mid-week communion services, Sunday School, and various ministry programs for all ages.
