About Friendship AME Church
Friendship African Methodist Episcopal Church, located in Columbia, South Carolina, traces its roots to 1922 when a small group of Christians in the Dutch Fork community founded what was initially called Little Mission. The congregation built its permanent church home in 1929 on Bush River Road in Lexington County. As an AME congregation, Friendship holds to Methodist doctrine and the Apostles' Creed, emphasizing God the Father, Christ as Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit as Comforter, with humankind as family. The church has undergone several renovations throughout its history and became a full-time station with weekly Sunday services in 1984. In September 2022, Reverend Chaunte L. Rogers was appointed as the church's first female pastor, marking a significant milestone in the congregation's century-long history.
