After decades of efforts to establish their own parish, the community was officially recognized as a mission in 1999 through the leadership of the Eparchy of Saint Maron of Brooklyn, with the first Maronite Tradition Day drawing 300 people to celebrate their rich liturgical heritage. The church maintains deep roots in the Antiochene Syriac Maronite tradition, tracing its spiritual lineage to the Apostle Peter and the early Christian community in Antioch where followers were first called Christians. Today, Saint Rafka serves as a vibrant center for worship, sacramental life, and cultural connection for Maronite Catholics throughout the Upstate region.
