About Bethlehem St James United Methodist Church
Bethlehem St. James United Methodist Church is a Methodist congregation on Johns Island with both contemporary and traditional worship. The church describes itself as one church with two locations, and Pastor Pattie Elaine Gordon is listed as the current pastor. Its history connects several longstanding Sea Islands Methodist congregations: St. James United Methodist Church was admitted to the South Carolina Conference in 1883, and Bethlehem United Methodist Church was one of four Methodist churches on the Sea Islands in 1890. The Johns Island Parish was formed in 1990 when Bethlehem rejoined St. James and Webster, and the merger of St. James UMC and Bethlehem UMC became Bethlehem St. James United Methodist Church under Rev.
