About Oratory
The Rock Hill Oratory, founded in 1934, is the oldest and largest house in a worldwide federation of independent Oratorian communities originating from St. Philip Neri's vision in Rome. Located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, this Catholic community gathers individuals committed to learning and practicing prayer while deepening their spiritual lives. Members of the Oratory are bound not by vows but by bonds of love, maintaining a deliberately small community that encourages meaningful interpersonal relationships and shared decision-making. Beyond its contemplative foundation, the Oratory has a rich history of active ministry, including pioneering civil rights support, refugee assistance, and spiritual formation programs. Today, the community continues to welcome visitors through its Center for Spirituality, which offers retreats, Bible studies, and other programs designed to nurture spiritual growth and prayer.
