About First Presbyterian Church

First Presbyterian Church of Sturgis has roots reaching back to 1886, when missionary Rev. J. Logan Sample founded the congregation with thirteen charter members on the South Dakota frontier. The church building was constructed and dedicated in 1887, and the current sanctuary was completed in 1967. Today, the church gathers for Sunday worship at 10:00 a.m., with Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. and fellowship time following the service. The congregation emphasizes an inclusive, welcoming approach, inviting visitors to come as they are regardless of background or church membership. Holy Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month and is open to all baptized Christians. The church's mission centers on living and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with both its congregation and the wider community.
