About Lights Chapel Baptist Church
Lights Chapel Baptist Church in Greenbrier has roots in Lights Chapel Baptist Mission, which held its first service on April 3, 1966. The mission was constituted as Lights Chapel Baptist Church on April 14, 1976. The church’s location has a long history of Christian worship and community use: George Jasper Light gave the land in 1878 for Methodists to build a church and schoolhouse, and the building was later used by Cumberland Presbyterians until 1955. First Baptist Church acquired the building in 1965 on the recommendation of its missions committee, leading to the Baptist mission that became today’s congregation.
