About Beard's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church
Beard’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield is a historic Baptist congregation established on July 16, 1865. The church identifies itself as the oldest African American Baptist church in Robertson County and describes its mission as “A Loving Church Sharing Christ with Confidence!” Its history includes service to the wider community: Beard’s Chapel was used as a school for Black children in 1869, and in 2003 the church restored a forgotten graveyard with headstones dating back to the 1900s. Rev. Steven D. Woodson was elected the church’s 12th pastor on November 12, 2022.
