About Mt. Zion Baptist Church
Mt. Zion Baptist Church is one of Nashville's oldest congregations, organized in 1866 just three years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Under the leadership of Bishop Joseph W. Walker III, the church has grown from 175 members in 1992 to several thousand today, expanding to multiple campuses across the Nashville area including locations in Brentwood, Jefferson Street, Antioch, and Old Hickory in Whites Creek. The congregation describes itself as a Word-centered, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural ministry committed to evangelizing the lost, equipping believers, and providing holistic community service. Mt. Zion emphasizes worship in spirit and truth, embracing freedom in worship and striving to be an oasis of hope both within Nashville and globally. The church offers various ministries including college groups, evangelism, prayer, small groups, and a discipleship institute, alongside multiple weekly services designed to serve its growing congregation.
