About Prayer Works
Prayer Works is a Baptist church located in downtown Abilene, Texas, with roots tracing back to 1881 when it was established as the first Baptist church organized after Abilene's founding. The church remains committed to staying connected with its community while embracing both tradition and contemporary expressions of faith. Worship services blend musical styles from contemporary to traditional, supported by a pipe organ and rhythm section, with an orchestra frequently participating. The congregation emphasizes authentic community, spiritual formation through Bible study and small groups, and comprehensive ministries for all ages from preschool through seniors. Visitors are welcomed to come as they are, without pretense, and are invited to begin their journey by attending Bible study at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings, where greeters assist newcomers in finding appropriate classes.
