About Moody Methodist Church
Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church in Galveston seeks to walk alongside neighbors in the love of Christ. The congregation traces its roots to 1841 when Ryland Chapel became the first Methodist and first Protestant church building on Galveston Island. Today, Moody Methodist offers four distinct worship experiences each Sunday: Informal Worship at 8:30 a.m. in a camp-meeting style with traditional hymns and congregational hymn selection; Traditional Worship at 11:00 a.m. drawing on ancient Christian liturgy and featuring classical sacred music; The Bridge Modern Worship at 11:00 a.m. in the Christian Life Center with contemporary music and a thoughtful sermon; and Spanish Worship at 11:00 a.m. for the Hispanic community. United Methodists emphasize practical faith rooted in Scripture, Tradition, Reason, and Experience, and practice an open table where anyone may receive Holy Communion.
