About St Mary's Catholic Church
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lampasas, Texas has served the local Catholic community since its founding in 1885, when parishioners organized services on a nearby ranch before establishing a church on West Fifth Street. The congregation, which now includes approximately 430 families, initially celebrated Mass only once monthly across a vast 3,200-square-mile parish. Over the decades, the church has grown to offer regular weekday and weekend Masses in both English and Spanish, along with a robust program of ministries including youth groups, men's groups, prayer groups, and Knights of Columbus. Under the pastoral leadership of Fr. Antony Akkappallil, who was installed in November 2025, St. Mary's continues to welcome newcomers, visitors, and long-time parishioners to experience Catholic worship and community life in the heart of Texas.
