About First United Methodist Church of Lufkin
First United Methodist Church of Lufkin has served the Lufkin community for over 150 years, beginning with Bible study meetings in Margaret Fullerton Abney's home in 1863 and formally organizing in 1882. The congregation moved to its current location at 805 East Denman Avenue on Easter Sunday 1959 and has since grown to encompass a multi-building complex. Today, the church pursues a mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world, guided by core values of Gather, Grow, and Love Others. The church emphasizes equipping adults to communicate the changing power of Jesus Christ in practical ways and believes in loving God and loving neighbors. Visitors are welcome to join the congregation for worship and community.
