About Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Sacred Heart Catholic Church is a Catholic parish in Port Arthur with a long history of worship and pastoral care. The parish traces its first spiritual care to 1915, when Father Alexis LaPlant served nearly 200 Black Catholics in the area. Mother Katharine Drexel contributed to the building of a small wooden church, and Father Arthur Flanagan later became the first priest to reside at Sacred Heart. Father Joseph Lally followed as the second resident priest beginning in December 1924. Rev. Michael Eninlejie, MSP is listed with the parish today.
