About Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Portland, Texas has served its community since 1960, growing from a small chapel and rectory into a vibrant parish with approximately 1,200 families. The parish traces its spiritual roots back even further to 1915, when Father Leonard Cunningham first celebrated Mass in a local dance hall before a dedicated church was built. Over the decades, successive pastors oversaw the construction of a new church, expanded facilities, and the development of active ministries in religious education and social service. Today, under the leadership of Father Piotr Koziel, the parish continues its mission surrounded by dedicated staff and volunteers. Visitors are invited to experience a welcoming Catholic community committed to growing in the love of God's grace.
