About Christian Assistance Ministry
Christian Assistance Ministry (CAM) is a faith-based social services organization founded in 1977 by nine downtown churches and now supported by over 100 churches of various denominations. Operating from two locations in San Antonio, CAM serves approximately 70,000 people annually by providing immediate assistance to individuals and families in crisis. Services include food distribution, clothing, financial assistance for prescriptions and utilities, ID recovery, mail services, and transportation support. CAM operates on a walk-in basis with no appointment necessary, functioning as an emergency room of social services where every person is welcomed and treated as a child of God. The ministry addresses both immediate physical needs and spiritual care, while also connecting clients to long-term community resources and specialized nonprofits. With over 250 volunteers and support from churches, corporations, and individual donors, CAM remains committed to serving the working poor and vulnerable populations with compassion and grace.
