Talitha Koum Institute is a faith-based early childhood mental health and therapeutic nurture center located in Waco, Texas, serving at-risk children from eight weeks through five years old. Founded by CrossTies Ecumenical Church in response to a call to serve the children of South Waco, the organization combines intensive therapeutic intervention with the research-based HighScope cognitive curriculum in a distinctive setting—a former WWII aircraft hangar that houses one of Texas's largest sensorimotor gyms. The program addresses the critical window of brain development in infancy and early childhood, helping children develop self-regulation skills and emotional resilience while working closely with parents through weekly education classes. Beyond the Nurture Center, TKI extends its mission through a mentoring program for school-aged children and community training on trauma-informed care. The organization's approach is grounded in the Aramaic words Jesus spoke, "Talitha koum"—"My child, rise up"—reflecting its commitment to breaking generational poverty and strengthening the Waco community.
