About Salt Lake Buddhist Temple
The Salt Lake Buddhist Temple is a Jodo Shinshu Honganji Ha temple affiliated with the Buddhist Churches of America and connected to the Nishi Honganji mother temple in Kyoto, Japan. The temple welcomes anyone to attend its Sunday services, which include meditation at 9:00 AM and a Dharma School Family Service at 10:00 AM. As a lay-centered, non-monastic Buddhist tradition, the temple serves not only as a religious center but also as a social and cultural hub for the community. The congregation engages in traditional practices including incense burning, sutra chanting, gassho (a respectful gesture), and the recitation of the nembutsu, which expresses gratitude toward Amida Buddha. Members and visitors are invited to participate in various seasonal observances and to support the temple's mission through dana, or selfless giving.
