About Barre Congregational Church
Founded in 1799, the Barre Congregational Church has served its community for over 225 years with a commitment to both inner spiritual growth and outward justice. Located in downtown Barre at 35 Church Street, the church is distinctively known as "the church with the red doors," featuring three sets of double red doors that symbolize the congregation's intention to practice faith both internally and externally. As a member of the United Church of Christ, the church is dedicated to discerning justice and speaking truth to the community while extending kindness and acceptance to all people. The congregation celebrates the sacred worth of every person regardless of age, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, or ability. The church has evolved significantly through multiple expansions and renovations, most recently in 1999, reflecting its growth from twelve founding members to a vibrant congregation today. Visitors are welcomed with the assurance that whoever they are and wherever they are on life's journey, they are welcome here.
