About Sisters Of St Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with deep historical roots tracing back to 17th century France, now based in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia with members throughout twelve states. Founded on the charism of unioning love—connecting neighbor with neighbor and all creation with God—the congregation has ministered for nearly two centuries in hospitals, schools, orphanages, battlefields, and community aid services. The Sisters of Saint Joseph embody a spirit of responsiveness to urgent social needs, particularly serving the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Their mission evolved through Vatican Council II's call to return to foundational inspiration, deepening their commitment to spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Today, approximately 500 Sisters and 600 Associates in Mission continue this legacy of compassionate service and prophetic witness.
