About Virginia Tech War Memorial Chapel

Virginia Tech's War Memorial Chapel, located on the Drillfield in Blacksburg, is a distinctive interfaith sacred space dedicated to honoring the university's alumni who served in the military. Completed in 1960 and renovated in 2000–2001, the chapel features a lower level with a 260-seat worship space and an upper level Memorial Court with eight limestone pylons inscribed with the names of alumni lost in military service and seven Medal of Honor recipients. The chapel's chancel sculpture, designed by renowned artist Donald DeLue, expresses the relationship between humanity and the divine, with figures representing both daily spiritual life and communion with the creator. As part of the Virginia Tech campus, the chapel serves the university community and welcomes visitors interested in exploring its architectural significance and solemn memorial purpose.
