About Sojourners United Church
Sojourners United Church of Christ, located at the corner of Elliott and Monticello Avenues in Charlottesville's Belmont/Carlton neighborhood, welcomes everyone to its friendly, casual, and spontaneous worship community. The congregation prioritizes social justice work through its Justice and Advocacy Ministry, which focuses on racial and LGBTQ justice, and its Service and Missions Ministry, which supports outreach and service projects. The church is deeply child-friendly, offering a specially designated "Time with Children" during worship that typically includes music lessons or storytelling, along with available nursery care. Sojourners takes a relaxed approach to participation and membership, inviting visitors and long-time attendees alike to engage at whatever level feels right for them. The church acknowledges its location on ancestral lands of the Monacan and Monahoac Nations and commits to working for reparations and justice for descendants of enslaved Black persons in the region.

Founded in 1993
A UCC-sponsored meeting in Charlottesville led to weekly gatherings by early January 1993. Sunday morning services were initiated in September 1993, and the congregation now worships at 1017 Elliott Avenue.
