About St John's Catholic Church
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal, Virginia holds a unique place in American Catholic history as one of the few memorial churches in the United States, built in honor of John Carrell Jenkins, a Civil War soldier who died in 1861. The church was established in 1884 by the Jenkins family, prominent Baltimore Catholics descended from some of America's earliest Catholic pioneers dating to the 1600s. Today, the parish offers a robust spiritual life with multiple daily and Sunday Mass times, including Spanish-language options, along with regular Confession, Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel, and devotional prayers such as the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. The original 1884 church building, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, continues to serve as an Adoration Chapel, while a larger church was dedicated in 1998 to serve the growing parish.
