About Bethel AME Church
Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 2521 N. Armistead Avenue in Hampton, Virginia, has served the community since its organization in August 1864. The church is part of the African Methodist Episcopal Connection and is guided by its inclusive motto: "God our Father, Christ our Redeemer, The Holy Spirit our Comforter, Humankind our Family." Under the pastoral leadership of Reverend André P. Jefferson, Sr., Bethel prioritizes spiritual growth through prayer, praise, worship, and service, with particular emphasis on youth development and community outreach. The congregation offers in-person and virtual worship experiences, multiple Bible study and inspiration sessions throughout the week, and numerous ministries designed to meet the spiritual, intellectual, and physical needs of all people. Known as "The Church with a Smile," Bethel remains a leader in the Virginia Annual Conference and actively ministers to families, seniors, and those in need.
