About Friendship Baptist Church
Friendship Baptist Church in Hopewell traces its beginning to 1914 under the leadership of Reverend Jake Turner. The congregation first held services under a bush harbor for one year, and the church building was erected in 1916 on land donated by Brother John and Sister Mattie Briggs. The church was originally known as Union Gospel Baptist Church. Its stated mission is to “Love God, Love Others, and Serve Our Community,” reflecting a Baptist congregation shaped by both its early history and its commitment to the Hopewell community.
