About Shrine Mont
Shrine Mont is a conference and retreat center and cathedral sanctuary located in Orkney Springs in the Shenandoah Valley of western Virginia. At its heart stands the Cathedral Shrine of the Transfiguration, an open-air cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia consecrated in 1925, where public worship services are held at 11:00 on Sundays from late April through early November. Beyond its spiritual mission, Shrine Mont welcomes groups and individuals for retreats, conferences, camps, family reunions, and various workshops and festivals throughout the year, accommodating up to 550 people across its grounds and historic facilities. The property encompasses the Virginia House, a restored 1875 structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places, along with numerous cottages and lodges nestled among the trees at the foot of Great North Mountain. Visitors are invited to experience a place where prayer, reflection, and appreciation for God's creation are central to the community's mission.
