About Christ & Grace Episcopal Church
Christ & Grace Episcopal Church, founded in 1841 and located in Petersburg's Walnut Hill neighborhood, welcomes all people seeking to experience God's love in community. The church merged two congregations—Grace Church and Christ Church—in 1953 and built its present sanctuary in 1957. Under the leadership of Rector The Rev. Lissie Rhoton, who joined in October 2024, the parish offers traditional Episcopal worship following the Book of Common Prayer while experimenting thoughtfully with contemporary elements. The church is deeply committed to hospitality, describing itself as open and affirming to people at any stage of their faith journey, and serves as an agent of positive change throughout the larger Petersburg community.

Dress Code: Not specified—please contact the church directly. Service Format: Sunday Holy Eucharist at 10:00 a.m. features organ and congregational singing; Wednesday Holy Eucharist at noon is a smaller, spoken service. Both follow the traditional Episcopal liturgy with two parts—the Liturgy of the Word and the Liturgy of the Table—with prayers, scripture, sermon, and communion. Visitor Tips: Ushers greet visitors at the door with service bulletins and answer questions; you will not be singled out or asked to stand before the congregation. The building is wheelchair and walker accessible with ramps at the back and north side. Visitors are invited to participate fully, observe quietly, or simply receive a blessing at communion. Refreshments and fellowship follow the service in the parish hall.
