About Friends Meeting Of Richmond
Friends Meeting of Richmond is a Quaker congregation located in Richmond, Virginia, with roots reaching back to 1795, making it the second church established in the city. As an unprogrammed meeting, worship centers on silent waiting for the Spirit, with spoken messages only when individuals feel genuinely led—entire silent gatherings are common and valued. The community is diverse and welcoming to all seekers, organized around core testimonies of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, and equality. Members engage in religious education for both children and adults, spiritual exploration, and concrete social action rooted in Quaker values, including work on migration, LGBTQ+ inclusion, peacemaking, environmental stewardship, and racial justice. Weekly worship gatherings occur on Sunday mornings in-person and online, with additional midweek worship sharing available virtually, alongside a retreat center and opportunities for fellowship and community building.
