About Temple House of Israel
Temple House of Israel is a Reform Jewish congregation located in Staunton, Virginia, welcoming members from the local area and surrounding counties as well as students from nearby college campuses. Established in 1876, the congregation has celebrated 150 years of preserving Jewish life and identity in the Shenandoah Valley. The temple regards each member as part of its mishpachah, or family, and emphasizes a welcoming community grounded in spirituality, learning, service, joy, and worship. As a member of the Union for Reform Judaism, Temple House of Israel follows principles of liberal Jewish religious practice, social action, and tikkun olam while also engaging with the broader community through interfaith programs and charitable initiatives.
