Laurel Grove Baptist Church, located in Franconia, Virginia, is a historic congregation with roots stretching back to 1884, when a group of neighbors established the church to serve African-American families in the community who lacked convenient access to worship. Known affectionately as "The Church by the Side of the Road," the congregation has been guided by a succession of faithful pastors, currently under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Rev. Dr. James E. Scott and First Lady Bertha Scott, who joined the church in 2012. The church is grounded in Christian principles of loving, caring, giving, and sharing, and remains committed to helping members explore their relationship with God and strengthen meaningful relationships in family life. Though the original building was destroyed by fire in December 2004, the church has persevered and continues to serve the Franconia-Springfield community with dedication to faith and outreach.
