About Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church
Buffalo Mountain Presbyterian Church in Willis, Virginia, was organized in 1927, and its building was dedicated in 1929. It is known as the “Mother Church” of the six rock churches established by Rev. Bob Childress and is the largest of the six churches known as “The Rock Churches of the Buffalo.” The church takes its name from the distant view of Buffalo Mountain northwest of the church. Rev. Childress and his family are buried in the adjacent cemetery, connecting the congregation’s setting with an important part of its history.
