About Sgi-Usa
SGI-USA Bellingham is part of the most diverse Buddhist community in the United States, practicing Nichiren Buddhism centered on respect for the dignity of human life. Members engage in daily practice at home, chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and reciting portions of the Lotus Sutra to embrace their Buddha nature and apply Buddhist principles to daily life. The community gathers monthly for neighborhood discussion meetings where members study Buddhist teachings and share experiences of applying Buddhism to life's challenges. SGI-USA is committed to dialogue, nonviolence, and peace activities including human rights education and nuclear abolition efforts. The organization represents a humanistic approach to Buddhism that emphasizes individual empowerment and the interconnectedness of all life.
