About Olympia Zen Center

Olympia Zen Center is a Soto Zen Buddhist community that has been practicing in Olympia since 1995. The center is led by Eido Frances Carney, who founded the organization after receiving Dharma Transmission in Japan and training at a historic 13th-century temple. The primary practice is Zazen, or Zen meditation, which forms the foundation of their spiritual life and daily activities. The community welcomes everyone regardless of background and offers meditation services, retreats, study groups, and training in Soto Zen practice. They maintain a lay community supported entirely by donations and hold monthly retreats as well as two week-long sesshin per year. Newcomers are invited to participate in orientation sessions and are encouraged to reach out with any questions.
