About First Congregational United Church of Christ
First Congregational United Church of Christ in Appleton is a welcoming congregation celebrating 175 years of ministry, describing itself as the Church of the Open Door where everyone is valued and belongs. Led by co-pastors Katherine Willis Pershey and Nick Hatch, the church offers worship that combines moments of silence with laughter, carefully crafted liturgy with extemporaneous prayer, and sermons grounded in biblical story and progressive theology. The congregation is known throughout the community for its excellent music program, which ranges from classical choral and organ traditions to jazz and contemporary genres. With around 1,000 members and approximately 300 people worshiping weekly, First Congregational serves as an Open and Affirming congregation that actively welcomes the LGBTQ+ community and people of all backgrounds and faith journeys. The church emphasizes both spiritual growth through worship and living out faith in community through service to neighbors and work for justice and equality.

Service Format: One Sunday service at 9:30 AM (onsite and online via YouTube and Facebook) lasting approximately one hour, featuring carefully crafted liturgy, contemporary and classical music, biblical sermons, and opportunities for children to participate with age-appropriate activities in the PRAYground before moving to Children's Ministry.
