About St. John Chrysostomos Greek Orthodox Monastery

St. John Chrysostomos Greek Orthodox Monastery is a women's convent founded in 1994 and located in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, north of the Illinois border between Chicago and Milwaukee. The monastery follows the 17-centuries-old Orthodox Christian monastic tradition, with its spiritual program rooted in the teachings of Elder Joseph the Hesychast and his disciple Elder Ephraim. The monastery features an eight-domed church that is an authentic replica of ancient Byzantine architecture, adorned with elaborately carved oak altar screens, pearl-colored marble floors, and ornate tile mosaics. The community welcomes visitors seeking a spiritual oasis and peaceful retreat, offering day visits and overnight guest accommodations in the Guest House. The sisterhood's daily life centers on prayer, worship, service to those in need, and hospitality to pilgrims from around America and the world. The monastery maintains a bookstore and baked goods shop for visitors.
