About Presbytery of Northern Waters
The Presbytery of Northern Waters is a mid-council of the Presbyterian Church (USA) serving over 50,000 square miles across northeastern Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin, and the western tip of northern Michigan. Established on January 5, 1977, through the merger of the Duluth and Chippewa Valley Presbyteries, it currently encompasses 55 congregations with approximately 5,168 members. The presbytery's witness extends across an area characterized by woods, forests, clear lakes, and diverse industries including shipping, mining, and recreation. The region's cosmopolitan population is primarily European and Native American. The presbytery supports ministry through various initiatives, including the well-established Pioneer Parish consisting of four churches and a respected program training lay pastors to serve small rural congregations. Visitors interested in Presbyterian worship and fellowship are welcome to connect with congregations throughout the presbytery's expansive bounds.
