About First Congregational Church
First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa was established in 1842 by settlers from New England and New York, making it the first church in the community. As a Congregational church rooted in the English Reformed tradition, the congregation emphasizes intellectual freedom, Christian education, and democratic governance, with members selecting their own minister and each member having a voice in church decisions. The church serves an intergenerational community of more than 500 members who gather for worship centered on Christ, the Bible, and the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Today, First Church remains active in spiritual development, fellowship, and community involvement, continuing the legacy of faith and service that has defined the congregation for nearly 180 years.
